Collaborations: What I love about them

Like every photographer, before / during / after becoming a professional I've done a lot of collaboration shoots to practice and exercise my creative freedom. Working with other creatives to fuel your passion is one of the best parts of being in the industry and essential in getting your foot in the door. Never undervalue the talents and efforts of your team. I've made some great friendships that have stuck just from reaching out and collaborating.

Here are some of my favourite shots from a collab back in 2013 with Sarah @ The Wolves, styled by Vanessa Nguyen and beauty by Ali Stadler.

In saying this, don't let collaborations be your be all / end all if you're out to make a career. Practice and creative expression is invaluable but once you have a solid foundation to build your business and showcase your talent, it's time to get paid for your time and effort. Many people forget about all the expenses that come with being a photographer and will request or expect you to work for free under the guise of "collaboration" or the prize of "exposure". But that's a topic for another post!

Have fun creating!
